MACAULEY EXTENDS LOAN AHEAD OF CHORLEY VISIT
Striker Josh Macauley has this week agreed to extend his loan by another month after being given permission by Tranmere Rovers. Josh has scored 3 goals during his initial loan period and featured in a mid-week training match against a West Cheshire league XI in Wallasey.

Colwyn Bay travel to Chorley tomorrow and will be hoping to further extend their lead at the top of the table with Halifax and Lancaster once again involved in FA Trophy action. Chorley, who are managed by Steve Waywell, have had a mixed start to the season and currently lie in 14th place in the league. However, they feature prolific scorer Terry Fearns who has bagged 13 goals so far this season and they are the only side to take points off Halifax this season with a draw at home earlier on in the season.

“Chorley is a difficult place to go as we found out when we went there last season and won with a last minute goal. But we will be going there looking to continue our excellent away form.” said manager Neil Young.

On the injury front, the initial results this week from a scan on Rob Hopley’s knee appear much more promising than first feared and will require a further check by a knee specialist to decide whether an operation is required. James Dunn is still ruled out after suffering with mumps but transfer listed Eddie Jebb is included in the squad.

Squad (from):
Sanna, Denson, Corrigan, Brandreth, Challinor, Sheehan, Jebb, Kelly, Edwards, Clampitt, McGill, Sheridan, Graves, Davey, Aspinall, Black, Macauley

Media students to create online TV programme for Colwyn Bay FC supporters
To achieve a BTEC National Diploma in Media Production, students from Llandrillo College have to demonstrate that they can work as a team (to a brief) and produce 10 to 15 minutes worth of promotional material.

With the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea FC launching their own highly successful TV channels in recent times; football fanatics - Andy Wild, Callum Sorfleet and Simon Brookes – approached the club about producing a short TV programme for the ‘Bay’ supporters as part of their media project.

The aim of the programme being to give supporters the chance to see what goes on behind the scenes of the club (on a day to day basis), and keep up to date with the latest news from an innovative and exciting angle.

Community Director, Malcolm Jackson commented: “We never thought twice about supporting this creative idea. The programme will not only provide good publicity for the club, it will engage new supporters and members of the local community.  On top of that, it will allow us to provide the young lads involved with a fantastic learning experience, which will hopefully enable them to develop their skills and become successful in pursuing a future career within the sports media industry”.

After a number of ‘planning’ meetings, filming for the programme commenced at last week’s NWCFA Cup Fixture against Prestatyn and is set to continue into November.  Upon which: Adam, Callum & Simon will spend time editing the footage they have gathered so that they can produce a final ‘cut’. To include:

  1. A brief history of the club (including archive footage)
  2. Match highlights
  3. Player interviews
  4. Manager interviews
  5. Club news
  6. Community initiatives

In December, supporters will be able to view the programme on www.colwynbayfc.co.uk as well as downloading as a podcast from iTunes onto their pc, Ipod or MP3 player.

If the pilot programme is a success, the club (through its community engagement programme) will try hard to secure funding to sustain the project in the future. The objective being to produce monthly programmes for the website and for learning opportunities to be offered to interested fans.

Such fans won’t need to have any experience of film making at all, just enthusiasm, an interest in the local community and getting involved!

CBFC Elite Performance Centre Teams to Face Everton Youth Academy
Colwyn Bay Football Club is delighted to announce that the club has entered into a partnership with the Conwy County Schools’ Football Association in order to provide a unique programme of enhanced development for the selected young players within their Under 11 and Under 12 Squads.

The squads will consist of the best young talent in the area and will play under the Colwyn Bay Elite Performance Centre banner.

On Wednesday the 28th of October both squads will travel to Everton FC’s training ground, ‘Finch Farm’ to play their first competitive fixture versus the Everton Youth Academy.

Finch Farm training complex, built in 2006 is a £14 million pound facility. It boasts some of the finest training facilities in the world and it houses both the Everton first team and the youth academy.

Chris Whitley, Director of Football commented; “Our young players will have the opportunity to test their skills against some first class opposition and I am sure this will be the beginning of a great relationship between the two clubs.”

The Elite Performance Centre’s main target will be to establish a monthly programme of Coached Games against several Championship and Premier League Clubs to run alongside a programme of indoor seminars to be conducted by professionals within the game. image

The game will kick off at 10.30am, and will take place ‘behind closed doors’.

Colwyn Bay vs. Bamber Bridge
Ryan Williams now has clearance and could make his debut; however Stuart Graves flu, Jamie Dunn mumps and long term casualty Rob Hopley will all miss out.

Manager Neil young said “This is another important game against a top six side and it is important if we are going to be involved towards the end of the season we cut out the defensive errors which cost us three points against Trafford last week.”

“All in all I have been very happy with the start to the season and it is important now whilst other teams around us are involved in cup competitions that we put as many points on the board as possible so they are playing catch up.”

“I am still trying hard to strengthen our defensive options and hopefully we will have some news on that over the next week or so.”

BLACKIE RETURNS TO THE BAY FOR THIRD SPELL
Striker Neil Black is to return to the Bay for a third spell after agreeing terms with Manager Neil Young today. Neil, 27, left UniBond Premier Side Marine last week.

Neil Young comments “We have been trying to bring in a proven goal-scorer at this level since Rob Hopley’s injury. Neil had scored a lot of goals in his previous spell and I believe that given the opportunities he will continue doing that again, he will be a good addition to our forward options.”

“Another important factor was that he was really keen to return to the club”

Black was voted player of the year by supporters in 2007/08 after scoring over 30 goals that season.

Black is Neil Young’s second signing this week along with ex-Chester youngster Ryan Williams. Both will be ineligible for tonight’s NWCFA cup game but will be available for selection for this Saturdays home game against Trafford (KO 3pm).

EX-CHESTER MIDFIELDER SIGNED
Neil Young has this evening completed the signing of promising, attacking midfield player 18 year-old Ryan Williams.

Ryan, who was previously with Chester City and more recently on trial at Hercules of Spain won't be eligible for tomorrow nights NWCFA Cup game against Prestatyn but he will be involved on Saturday against Trafford.

Neil said: "We have been really busy over the last two weeks trying to improve the squad and it has been very important not to just bring people in to add to the numbers but more importantly to bring additional qualities in to the squad. I know people in certain quarters have been concerned about the numbers in the squad but we have had to be patient in order to identify players and then work to get an agreement with them to come to Colwyn Bay which fits within our budget."

"Ryan comes highly recommended from people within the professional game and after a couple of weeks of talks I am very happy Ryan has chosen us ahead of a number of other clubs. Over the coming months we are
hopeful that Ryan will play a major part in our push for promotion."

Efforts are still on-going in order to strengthen the squad further.

CBFITC encourages more children to ‘walk to school’
On Monday 5th October, staff from Colwyn Bay Football in the Community took part in a safe route to school walk from St. Trillo Chapel to Ysgol Llandrillo yn Rhos.  Christian Fontana, Chris Whitley & Carol Beard were joined by: pupils, parents and the Colwyn Bay neighbourhood policing team.  They were also joined by school staff members and Linda Began from the Road Safety Department.

All children that took part were given free match tickets for a forthcoming Colwyn Bay FC home fixture & an open invitation to lead the team out as an official mascot.

The walk went from St Trillo's chapel on the Prom, along Trillo avenue, Colwyn Crescent and across Penrhyn Avenue through recreational grounds (where more children joined in) and then along Elwy Road to the school.  It was in support of the national ‘walk to school week’ campaign, which asks parents, pupils and teachers to think about their journey to and from school and the many benefits of making it on foot.

Chris Fontana, CBFITC Project Manager commented:
“Walking to school is a brilliant way to get some physical activity and some fresh air into your day.  When children are bundled from front door to car door, they miss out on the opportunity to socialise with friends, get to know their community, and burn off some energy before getting their heads down in the books”

“If we are to avoid the Government’s prediction of a quarter of our children being obese by 2050, we need to start making changes to our lifestyle now.  We would love everyone who normally drives the school run to use this month as an excuse to try walking.  We think you’ll be amazed at how enjoyable a regular walk can be; a chance to spend real quality time together, and reap health rewards for all the family”.

NEIL YOUNG LOOKS TO ADD TO SQUAD
Neil Young has this evening revealed he is in talks with a number of clubs and players in an attempt to 'shake up the pack' in the light of another cup defeat to Witton on Saturday.

Young said ' Obviously the loss of our leading goal scorer and player of the year Rob Hopley is a massive blow to us and if I'm honest the seriousness of the injury has really gutted me and is one of my lowest moments in football, but I am well aware the show must go on and it's my job to try and get the club promoted and hopefully have Hops back to play in the UniBond Premier next season.

I was extremely disappointed with the performance yesterday once Rob went from the field of play as up until then I thought we were controlling the match, but once again the lack of responsibility, belief and total lack of confidence to get on the ball meant we give the opposition far to much time and space and hit far to many long balls meaning giving possession away constantly.

This has become an ongoing problem particularly in cup games and although we are top of the league I think on many occasions we have only been papering over the cracks. I now believe it's time to make changes if we are to continue the progress we have made over the last 12 months and we have been speaking to both clubs and players today to try and add to the squad and bring in some new faces to give us a lift, hopefully over the next 10 days we will have 3 or 4 new players in.

HOPLEY SUFFERS SERIOUS INJURY
Colwyn Bay’s staff, management and players have been left in shock after learning that the news from the hospital is not good.

After speaking to the doctor’s yesterday evening, the initial prognosis is not good and may mean Rob Hopley doesn’t play competitively again if the seriousness of the injury is as bad as first feared.

Rob will undergo a full scan a week Tuesday and hopefully the scan will bring better news.

Neil Young said “All I will say for the people who don't know Rob very well is that he was the model professional and in all my time here he has never missed a training session, never moaned and his performances have been excellent.”

“I know how much he enjoyed playing here and in a time when players are sometimes accused of being greedy or lacking commitment, Rob Hopley is a player who makes it a pleasure to do the job I do.“

"I am just devastated for him and all our thoughts are with him. At this moment nothing else matters"
