Colwyn Bay FC Player Profiles

07-01-09: DANNY HUGHES REQUIRES OP
The club are sorry to announce that midfielder Danny Hughes is going to have to go under the surgeons knife next Wednesday. It was hoped that his injury was not as bad as first thought, but further x-rays on his ankle has proved he has a double fracture and will need a metal plate putting in place.

This scuppers any hope of Danny returning to football this season, but is still in reasonably high spirits and still hopes to get to the ground to support the squad.

30-12-08: YOUNG IN STRIKER SWOOP
Neil Young has added to his attacking options after securing the signing of 18 year-old Billy Webb from Warrington Town. Webb is described as a quick, energetic forward and has scored regularly for the Cheshire FA Youth representative side. Young commented: "Billy has been scoring regularly at County level and as with the other young players we have brought to the club, I believe, if given the opportunities he will score goals at this level".

Webb goes straight into the squad for the next home game against Trafford and they are likely to feature the leagues top scorer Scott Barlow who has scored 28 goals already this season. Colwyn Bay will be keen to avenge two previous defeats to Trafford this season having conceded 9 goals in 2 games against the visitors from Manchester. The Bay will also be looking to shrug off the disappointing Boxing Day result at Woodley Sports and return to the impressive form that was displayed prior to that game.

23-12-08: SPEARRITT SIGNS
Former Witton Albion skipper Tom Spearritt has signed from Warrington Town. Spearritt, who plays in defence, started his career at Wigan as a trainee and has also appeared for Cammell Laird and Runcorn FC Halton after being released by Southport.

In further squad news, Andy Moran has now completed his second loan spell and returns to Fleetwood Town. The club would like to thank Andy for his efforts during his time with us this season and wish him well for the future.

With Moran’s loan spell finishing and in an effort to add to the attacking options, Manager Neil Young has put in 7 days notice on a young striker and is hoping for a deal to be agreed in time for the New Years Day home clash against Trafford.

11-12-08: RORY WHO?
After interviewing Colwyn Bay FC's Dave Challinor in November, December's issue of 4-4-2 carried a double page spread on the man with the world record breaking throw.

Human sling-shot: Dave Challinor holds the world record for the longest throw-in Move over Rory Delap! Meet former Tranmere defender Dave Challinor, world record holder and long throw specialist. Weekend Wonders went to find out his trade secrets…. Send these tips to your mates and help them chaos Sunday League chaos.

This season, pundits, players and managers have been fawning over Stoke City’s Rory Delap and his “Delap Special”, the missile he’s been firing with devastating effect at the rearguards of Premier League teams like Arsenal and Everton.

It’s also reignited the debate over whether the long throw is good or bad for football. But Challinor, 33, still holds the record, can chuck the ball much further than Delap, and few of his imitators are able to replicate the trajectory, speed and height he can achieve with a few steps and a dry ball.

07-12-08: SANNA RETURNS
Colwyn Bay FC have signed former Welsh youth international goalkeeper Chris Sanna for a third time. Sanna will be hoping for better luck than his previous two brief spells with the Seagulls. He was injured in only his second game after being signed by Peter Davenport in January 2007, and then left the club, and earlier this year was signed by Steve Pope but suffered a back injury after only 5 minutes in his first game at Durham and was again replaced. Sanna was signed in time to feature in the Bamber Bridge game on Saturday which was cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

Previously a Stoke City reserve player, he has recently been playing for Halesowen in the British Business League Premier Division and was also offered a professional contract by Chester City in pre-season.
