30-09-08: CLUB STATEMENT: POINTS DEDUCTION
Following the recent league hearing, which resulted in Colwyn Bay Football Club being deducted 3 points & fined £100 for fielding an ineligible player during the first league game of the season against Garforth on 16th August, the club has since carried out a full investigation into this incident and have decided not to appeal against the decision.

The Senior Management of the football club wish to state that they take collective full responsibility for the administrative error that led to this incident. The club wishes to make it clear that no one individual is to blame for this error.

Furthermore, the club would like to apologise to the supporters and especially the players who worked hard to win the three points during the game.

The club can assure both fans and players that measures have been put in place to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.

29-09-08: CHALLINOR SIGNS
Colwyn Bay are delighted to announce the signing of another former Tranmere Rovers star Dave Challinor.

Challinor, 32, joined Bury in 2004 after a spell at Stockport County who bought him from Tranmere for a six-figure fee.

Challinor (pictured), who has totalled over 400 League appearances, famously holds the world record for the longest throw in football which proved to be a lethal weapon in several of Rovers` victories on the way to the 2000 Worthington Cup Final.

Colwyn Bay boss Neil Young commented on the signing “Dave is an excellent signing and is a big name for the club. He strengthens the defence that ive inherited and I can now concentrate on improving other areas”

Young is hoping that international clearance will come through in time for him to make his debut at Warrington in the Unibond League Cup on Tuesday night.

The club can confirm that Midfielder Wayne Corden, at the request of the player, has been released to sign for his home town side Unibond Division One (South) Leek Town.

29-09-08: CHRIS ROBERTS STEPS DOWN
It is with regret that Colwyn Bay Football Club must announce that Chris Roberts has stepped down from his position as Stadium Projects Director. Chris has cited that the increase in his work commitments coupled with the growth of his own company, Inner Frame, has greatly restricted the time that he can actively devote to his role at the club. Chris stated that he has not made this decision lightly and that he and his company Inner Frame will continue to support the Club as much as possible.

During his time on the board, Chris played an influential role in overseeing the ground work required in obtaining a ‘C’ ground grading award for the stadium. Colwyn Bay Football Club wishes to take this opportunity to thank Chris for all his effort’s and support during his tenure as a Director and wish him all the best for the future.

In the interim period Martin Cartwright will take temporary charge of Stadium Projects and will pick up the investigation work that is currently underway with regards to “raising a roof” on the Triact & also numerous other projects that are also in the pipeline.

The club are currently in discussions with a number of parties who have indicated an interest in joining the board. Further announcements will follow in due course.

25-09-08: YOUNG SWOOPS FOR BRANCHBranch
Newly appointed Colwyn Bay FC boss has moved quickly to strengthen the side with the signing of former Tranmere Rover’s and Burnley player Graham Branch. Branch joins from Cammell Laird where he was also captain.

Branch started his football career as a trainee with Tranmere Rovers. Having made 109 appearances for them, with loan deals at Bury and Wigan Athletic along the way, he was released on a free transfer to Stockport County for the beginning of the 1998–99 season, and quickly arrived at Turf Moor around Christmas in 1998 when signed by Stan Ternent, following a falling-out with then Stockport manager, Gary Megson.

On May 7th 2007. 1,809 fans turned out at Turf Moor to say goodbye to the versatile player when the current Burnley side played a 'Branch XI'. Branch left Burnley in May, 2007 and later joined Accrington Stanley making 22 appearances. In total Branch has made over 400 league appearances.

Defender Chris Taylor, who appeared for the Bay last season, has also returned the bolster the defensive ranks following a spate of injuries and suspensions.

Moves are also afoot to try and bring in one more player in time for Saturdays match with Harrogate

25-09-08: CLUB ACTS AGAINST RACISM
The club is sad to report that during the recent home game against Curzon Ashton a Colwyn Bay spectator shouted a racist remark which was overheard by an opposition player.

This player subsequently made a complaint to Club officials who reacted quickly to identify and deal with the culprit. The spectator was given an automatic ban for life from the stadium and removed.

At the end of the game the player and a member of the Curzon Ashton coaching staff were advised of the actions taken by Club officials and were asked if they wished the matter to be handed over to the police. The player stated that he was thankful for the actions taken by the club and did not wish to take the matter further.

Matchday Operations Director Martin Cartwright was quick to praise the actions of the stewarding staff and stated, “The manner and speed with which this matter was handled typifies the professional approach of the stewarding staff at this club. This type of behaviour has no place at our stadium which is considered to be a very friendly environment to visit. That said, this Club takes matters involving foul, racist and abusive language very seriously and any spectator found to be breaking this rule will, at a minimum, receive a lifetime ban from the stadium.”

24-09-08: NEW MANAGER ANNOUNCED
Colwyn Bay Football Club is delighted to announce that Neil Young has been appointed as the new 1st team manager. Young was previously part of the management team at Cammell Laird and was an integral part of their automatic promotion from the Unibond First Division South last season.

Having been involved in management from the age of 24, after injury finished his playing career, Young has been involved in over 25 cup and league successes during spells at Queens Park, Poulton Victoria, Rhyl & Cammell Laird. He has a proven eye for talent having brought through players from local football such as Greg Stones (Stafford & Rhyl), Michael Wilde (TNS), Stuart Graves (Bradford Park Avenue) and Michael Riley (Vauxhall Motors).

Young, who is a UEFA licensed coach, will be assisted by former Tranmere Rovers and Nottingham Forest star Gary Jones who also joins as assistant manager. Jones commanded a million pound fee when he moved to Nottingham Forest from Tranmere Rovers in 2000 and appeared for Grimsby Town last season where he achieved cult like status. Further additions to the backroom staff are also expected to be made.

Darren Cartwright stated that “The board was unanimous in our decision to appoint Neil. He has very clear ideas on what is required to make a successful side and has impressed us with his thorough approach, impressive network of contacts and a series of success’s that he has been integral to.”

Darren went on to say “Neil also comes highly recommended from a number of people within the game who have worked with him. His experience & knowledge of both Unibond and Welsh Premier leagues will be advantageous for player recruitment.”

“He will require time in order to assess the current playing staff and implement his style and ideas. The players are very keen to impress the new manager.

We would like to wish Neil, Gary and their staff all the very best of luck”

Neil Young’s first game in charge will be at home to Harrogate Railway this Saturday, kick off 3pm.

A further statement from the new manager will be added shortly….

FORMER TRANMERE DEFENDER SIGNS
Colwyn Bay FC have signed 19 year-old defender Ryan Mitchell after his release from Tranmere Rovers. Ryan has come through the youth system at Tranmere and appeared for their reserves last season also spending time on loan to Leigh RMI in the Conference North (now Genesis). He can play central defence and also right back and has plenty of pace.

Darren Cartwright stated “With Scott Lycett being doubtful due to injury and the impeding suspension to Tim Brandreth after his sending off at the weekend, Ryan’s signing has come at a good time for us. We are now waiting for confirmation of International Clearance in order for him to take part in tonight’s match against Curzon Ashton.”

07-09-2008: STEVE POPE DEPARTS
Colwyn Bay Football Club regrets to announce the departure of Steve Pope as manager due to personal reasons.  Assistant Manager Paul Ogden has also left the club.

Former Leek Town manager Mark Cartwright has been placed in temporary charge of team affairs.

The club would like to place on record their gratitude to Steve & Paul for all of their efforts during their short tenure in charge and wish them both well for the future.

With “off the field” operations in a healthy position, the club will now concentrate its efforts on the appointment of a manager to take the team forward.

06-09-08: NEW SIGNING SET TO MAKE DEBUT
New Signing winger Wayne Corden is set to make his debut for the Bay today.  Wayne has made over 360 Football League appearances with Mansfield Town, Scunthorpe, Port Vale and most recently Leyton Orient, who released him in June after he made over 30 first team appearances (10 as substitute) last season in Coca Cola League One.

The 32-year-old winger has just been on trial with Oxford United and Kidderminster.
"He gives us the bit of experience we need at the moment and can play anywhere in midfield," said manager Steve Pope

"I've know him since we went to college together as YTS lads and we are very lucky to get him. He’s just been on trial at Kidderminster and their manager phoned me to say he was available if we were interested.
