14-08-07: GROUND GRADING ACHIEVED
Whilst excitement builds ahead of the big kick off this weekend for Colwyn Bay FC, the club received a massive off the field boost last weekend. Following an inspection by the UniBond League of Llanelian Road on Saturday, the club are delighted to learn that not only have the improvements met the stated requirements for a ‘D’ grading, the work has so impressed the inspector that the ground has been recommended to receive a ‘C’ grading. In effect it means the club can not only retain its place in the current league but has a ground eligible for promotion if achieved on the field.
Vice Chairman Andy Owens was delighted to hear the news; “The challenge the club faced was significant, but thanks to a tremendous team effort we have surpassed what we set out to do. I would like to pay tribute to the club members and volunteers who have put in hours of work to achieve this grading. In addition the Council and local businesses who have contributed to this project have demonstrated what can be achieved when the community pulls together.”
At the turn of the year the club was faced with a list of improvements to the Llanelian Road ground that had to be completed by July if it was to be able to compete in the UniBond league. Andy Owens made an appeal to supporters at a Fans Forum in February and since that time the ground has been a hive of activity as volunteers have worked weekends and evenings to meet the deadline set by the FA. The club has long had a reputation for the best playing surface on the Coast, but now boasts a 400 seater stand amongst other impressive facilities.
Andy Owens insisted however the club is not resting on its laurels. “We are now putting together a further ground development plan to ensure we can progress to Conference level Football. We are finalising plans to upgrade our floodlights which will also allow Llanelian Road to be a ground for representative matches as well as considering how we can ensure the ground can become a centre for community activities both sporting and social. In addition we are giving the clubhouse a makeover this week to ensure that supporters new and old are guaranteed an enjoyable match day experience.”
12-08-07: PRESIDENT IMPRESSED
Our Vice-President, Mr. David Williams was more than impressed with the upgraded facilities at Llanelian Rd. He took a tour of the ground prior to Saturday's game against Marine and was full of praise for the efforts of the volunteer groups. David who continues in his long distance support for the club was visiting with his family from Miami and during his visit also presented a cheque for £1250 to Chairman Geoff Cartwright.
