28-01-07: COLWYN BAY LADIES VS. PWLLHELI
We arrived at Kinmel bay on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon.we were playing there, due to our own ground being unfit to play on. The game started at a furious pace, but you could see the bay were short of match practice and both teams looked very disjointed.

The football was played at a rush with the passing game that the bay play, no where to be seen. Each team created very little chances to score, but in the 34th min Sara Williams turned on the edge of the Pwllheli box,hit a low drive into the bottom left corner of the net,to give the bay a one  goal lead. Soon after Emma fisher scored her first of three goals, with a well taken drive from the corner of the eighteen yard box.

The second half started with a bang ,with sue Harrison charging down a clearance ball from the Pwllheli defence, and with a well timed run into the box,she pushed the ball passed the on coming goalkeeper. Soon after third goal, came our fourth with Emma notching her second, then she slotted home a penalty which was given for a handball in the Pwllheli box. By  now the bay were playing the passing game we know they can play, and Pwllheli looked a beaten team.

With 15 min's left to play Kerry graham was awarded a free kick on the left hand touch line, which she took herself with a long cross into the area, and by chance ,it cleared all the players  in the Pwllheli penalty area,to bounce  and go into the bottom right corner of the goal. With 10 min's left to play Debbie Flatley came on for jess wall who had played an excellent second half, and with in 2 min's of entering the field of play, she latched onto a Kerry graham through ball, and put the ball round the Pwllheli keeper.

During the second half Pwllheli were awarded  a corner and unfortunately this was headed into the bay goal by Aimee Todd.(o/g).to make the score 4-1.

This game which looked to be off,due to weather and pitch conditions, turned out to be an excellent day for the bay each player played their part ,with strong leaders all over the pitch (second half).but the team was led and marshaled by Sali Evans ,who played a real captains game at the back, she was solid,as were the back four, and the whole team deserved this win, because  of their second half attitude and commitment.
Well done the bay

27-01-07:FIRST GAME JOY:
Two impressive strikes, one in each half from debut making John Lawless and Neil Black ensured Gary Finley got his hoped for home win against a competitive Chorley side.  Mark Quayle also made his debut, whilst Matt Parry made his return in goal. A friendly has been arranged versus Bangor City at Llanelian Road for next Wednesday January 31st KO 7.30pm.  This will give Gary the opportunity to have a look at a few players and options ahead of next Saturday’s visit to table toppers Buxton.

25-01-07: NEW BOSS TARGETS PLAY-OFFS:
New manager Gary Finley is confident that the Bay can still make the UniBond First Divison's end of season play-offs.
"Even though Colwyn Bay have played more games than other contenders, I still consider the play-offs a realistic target," he told the North Wales Weekly News.
"I've got a few players in mind who I would like to bring in as soon as possible and if we can get a bit of consistency going between now and the end of the season then anything is possible."

23-01-07:GARY FINLEY APPOINTED:
Colwyn Bay FC are pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Finley as the new manager.  Gary arrives with a wealth of experience of playing at this level for Marine, Vauxhall Motors, Warrington and Hyde United as well as for Doncaster Rovers in the Football League.  He also appeared in the LoW with Aberystwyth whom he guided into Europe as player manager.  He briefly played for the Bay in 2004 then took over as Manager at Witton Albion achieving cup success as well guiding them into a play off position in the UniBond Premier.  He was then manager at Conference North side Lancaster City until a financial crisis engulfed that team earlier this season.
Gary arrives as a fully qualified FA coach and is keen to reignite the club’s play off ambitions.

15-01-07:MANAGER RESIGNS:
Earlier this evening Peter Davenport contacted the board to announce he was resigning his position to take up the full time post of manager at Conference side Southport.  The board will consider the process of finding a replacement for the manager in the next few days.  In the meantime Huw Griffiths will be taking training on Wednesday.

14-01-07:BAY REIN IN BUCKS AND REIGN SUPREME IN THE RAIN:
After a run of 6 games without a win stretching back to the 2nd of December, the Bay faithful were forgiven for feeling apprehensive about the visit of league leaders Buxton, with just 2 defeats to their name as well as combining the most potent attack with the meanest defence in the Division. The absence of Chris Adamson who signed for Cammell Laird the day before added to the manager’s problems, and it was only a half fit Kyle Armstrong doing enough in a late fitness test that prevented Dav naming himself on the bench.  Lewis Callaghan was moved from his usual full back position to an emergency striking role, as the manager shuffled his resources, Neil Coverley starting in a midfield role, whilst Chris Sanna and Dave Rudge both turned in impressive home debuts.  A gale force wind affected the first half with an incessant downpour ensuring there was on respite from the elements in the second as the largest attendance of the season to date see both teams serve up competitive performances. But it was Lewis Callaghan who popped up with 2 goals to grab the headlines and the points and give the whole club a lift after a somewhat miserable 6 weeks.

Footnote: yesterday’s referee Steve Copeland in his first development game at this level was watched by his father Joe Copeland who now works as an assessor for the FA, although he was there purely in his parental capacity yesterday.  Mr Copeland Senior officiated one of Buxton’s last visits to the Bay in 1995.  He managed to secure the programme of that game from the club shop prior to kick off, as well as another from a more notorious game he officiated at Llanelian Road.  As he reminded me of the match in which he made some contentious decision in favour of the Bay, it so incensed a member of the visiting team that when the match officials returned to their dressing room at the end of the game, someone had broken into their facility and put the official’s suit in a sink ensuring it was soaking wet.  The club in question – no longer a member of the league – was sanctioned by the authorities, but also missed their intended target as Joe mentioned with a chuckle that his own suit was left on it’s hanger and the unfortunate victim was one of his linesmen that day!!

07-01-07: COLWYN BAY LADIES - KINMEL BAY HIT FOR SIX… TWICE!
This was our first match for around six weeks with having the Christmas and New Years breaks.  Also, many matches were called off due to the bad weather.  The long break without a game showed in the first 20 minutes as Colwyn Bay FC looked very ring rusty.  A new formation was in play due to illness and suspension Colwyn Bay took time to get into gear while the team settled into their new positions, but once they did, there was no stopping them.  The first goal came from Emma Fisher with a low hard drive into the bottom corner after some well worked passing.  This seemed to wake the ladies up, with Emma nothing another three goals before halftime.  Sue Harrison also got her name on the score sheet before half time.
Half Time Kinmel Bay 0 – Colwyn Bay 5

With the ladies now settled, they started the second half much better with Vicky Byrne really enjoying her new roll playing behind the midfield and in front of the back three.  The football the ladies were playing was simple but effective, giving Kinmel Bay very little time on the ball, pressurising them back into their own half for most of the second half.  The goals in the second half were all very well taken.  After some of the best passing this team has produced for sometime, Goals from Emma Fisher (4), Kerry Graham (1), Sue Harrison (1), and a superb solo effort from Vicky Byrne gave the Bay a magnificent score line of twelve goals to nil.  What a way to start the New Year!
SCORERS EMMA FISHER 8, SUE HARRISION 2, KERRY GRAHAM 1, VICKY BYRNE 1

05-01-07:TV EXPOSURE:
From January, non-league football fans will be able to download recorded highlights of UniBond league games from their PCs, laptops and PDAs with the launch of UniBond TV. The league has teamed up with Onside Sports - the company behind Charlton Athletic TV and production company for Sky TV's Hong Kong Soccer 7's and International Masters Football - to launch a service that will be available to anyone with broadband internet access.

For every week of the season, visitors to www.unibondleague.com will be able to download a 20 minute programme from a Premier or First Division match, filmed by Onside Sports. The footage will be available within 48 hours of the final whistle in the televised match and will contain interviews and match analysis.  A second, 45 minute long programme of highlights from other UniBond league matches compiled from footage supplied from those clubs able to film their games will also be introduced in the coming weeks.

Each programme will cost just £2 to download, with mini season tickets offering discounts to customers signing up for multiple matches. This is the first time that a Step 3 competition has launched its own TV service and it is hoped that this could be the first step towards regular satellite, or even terrestrial, TV coverage for the UniBond League. The UniBond TV initiative comes from the league's Marketing & Sponsorship Group, and follows a successful pilot scheme at the end of last season, when over 1,000 people downloaded highlights of the play-off finals in three days. The Marketing & Sponsorship Group was also behind the kit deal with Macron to which 18 UniBond clubs have so far signed up.

Peter Brooks, former MD of Manchester United TV and chairman of Onside Sports said "non league football has suffered from a lack of TV coverage for many years. This is a great opportunity for fans who follow their local sides to enjoy key action via the internet. It bridges the gap between main broadcasters' excellent coverage at the top end of the game for those fans who want to see pictures from grass roots level."

An announcement of the first league game to be televised will be made on the website next week.

01-01-07:NEW YEAR NEW OPTIMISM:
With the New Year celebrations just subsiding Dav is already out and about looking to improve his squad.  The postponed game against Clitheroe was a disappointment but Dav took the opportunity to take in another game as he strives to adjust his playing options.  “The back to back games with Bradford at the beginning of December should have been the foundation from which we moved on to cement our play off position, however failings at both ends of the park meant we did not consolidate and ended the year disappointing our supporters.  We need to stop conceding cheap goals whilst we need to be far more clinical in the final third to finish teams off when we are on top.”  Whilst injuries to key players at the back has disrupted Dav’s selection plans, he accepts that as part of the game “We missed Covs at the start of the season, Timmy throughout December and more recently Lewis, but we need to be more solid at the back and its up to me to get that right, I hope to have recruited another player before the Belper game to ensure we have sufficient strength in depth at the back, to ensure our goals against total reflects that of a side pushing for a top 5 place”  Similarly with the unavailability of Peter Smith and the return to Wrexham of Jamie Reed, the need for more firepower is as pressing as ever.  “When those 2 came in at the end of October, I felt we had a pairing that would help us move on, they did for a while, but I again need to bring more reinforcements in, as the lads I’m playing up front would not be regarded as out and out strikers.  Like most managers I want 20+goals a season forwards, the ones that I want are out of our price range as we compete with certain clubs paying over the top.”  As well as being in contact with those in the league and Conference, Dav is also scouring the lower leagues, “I’ve managed to pluck gems from the West Cheshire league before and see that as an avenue we will explore, though the lads from that level are by no means the finished product and need time and patience to develop.”  Whilst December was disappointing result wise Dav is not giving up on reasserting a play off challenge; “We need to start winning and chip away as teams above us slip, we must be looking to put a run together approaching Championship form, if we do and are in with a chance come the end of March, with the backing we get from our supporters I’m sure we could push on in the final month.”
