26-11-06:BAY LEFT FRUSTRATED:
For the second Saturday running the Bay were left to rue a poor opening spell from the defence followed again by the cursing of the match officials as once again a key decision went against the team. In a repeat of last weekend; defensive uncertainties gifted the opponents an early 2 goal lead, Neil Black and Jamie Reed equalised, but the Bay were denied the chance to secure the reward the second half efforts merited when Jamie Reed was upended in the box as he beat the last defender, however the match officials denied the penalty and compounded the frustration by booking young Jamie.
The conventional wisdom is that these things even themselves out over a season so some Bay fans may be standing by for a glut in the second half of the fixture calendar, one situation in the team’s control though is the fact the back line has conceded 2 goals in each of the last 4 games, it is something Dav will be keen to address as the 11 goals the team has scored at the opposite end would normally have produced a more positive points return.

Meanwhile for more senior Bay fans …..
The club is particularly grateful for the continued support from our loyal fans, we recognise the time before Christmas can bring additional financial pressures and the frequency of games can make attending matches more difficult during the festive period. So as a goodwill gesture and in recognition of the backing from you all, Santa will be arriving early here at Llanelian Road; on December 23rd; for those attending the home match with Woodley Sports will be able to enjoy a £1 a pint special offer in the clubhouse! The perfect incentive to complete all your shopping early, avoid the congestion in the shops and spend the afternoon amongst like minded friends and save money at the same time. So why not make your advance plans and ensure you can take advantage of this special deal, the last time beer was at that price Donnelly and Brett were in the centre of midfield … now if that isn’t worth talking about over a pint!!
20-11-06:FIXTURES CONFIRMED:
The away UniBond League trip to Warrington has been scheduled for Tuesday December 19th. The Bay have been drawn to play Rhyl at home in the Coast Cup with the tie on Tuesday December 12th.
19-11-06:DID THE BALL CROSS THE LINE?:
The Bay were left to rue the decision of the officials not to allow an equaliser when the home keeper dropped a sliced cross from Martin Crowder over his own line, the Bay supporters and players were all adamant the ball had crossed the goal line before it was scrambled away but were ultimately left frustrated. The Bay had a poor first half as Eastwood secured a 2 goal advantage at the break via the league’s top scorer. But the second period saw a much improved performance and Neil Coverley’s strike should have been the goal that helped launch the comeback to secure a point, but some inspired goalkeeping and the controversy over the goal that wasn’t meant the Bay’s recent good run came to an end.
16-11-06:MUCH BETTER:
The best Bay performance for some time secured 3 points and a top 4 position following the 3-2 win at Kidsgrove. Missing Brandreth, Boardman and Smith, Robbie Williams and Paul Roberts were recalled to the side, but it was Kenny Burgess starting his first game in a while that took advantage of his opportunity with 2 exquisite finishes to add to Chris Priest’s stunning opener. However it was the interplay and passing that left the Bay fans purring as the side finally produced the style of football most had been longing for all season.
14-11-06:GROUND IMPROVEMENTS:
The work on the new turnstile block at the ground has started. The 4 gate block and new security fencing at the clubhouse end of the ground, will hopefully be finished over the next few weeks.
12-11-06:BAY GO NAP:
Prior to the game a 5 goal haul would have been the stuff of dreams, however the 2nd half performance left the manager feeling disappointed that the style of play did not reach the level he is wanting, nor the ruthlessness in front of goal he is demanding. Jamie Reed opened his account for the Bay and was cynically brought down on the edge of the box which led to the third goal and the second red card for Goole. The first had been for abusive language following the award of the penalty that opened the account. In fact the visitors may even have had a third red following a nasty foul on Tim Brandreth which led to the Bay centre half being carried from the pitch. Two goals from Chris Priest and a header from Chris Adamson chalked the fourth for the Bay before half time. A Neil Black strike on the hour did not signal the floodgates being opened however and Dav was left with the task of pointing out to the lads that a 5 goal win was not good enough!

09-11-06:FRAMED:
With many eyes on the FA Cup 1st round this weekend, the Bay can claim some involvement as our club Partners InnerFrame have produced a commemorative frame for the match between our former FA Trophy adversary and Nationwide Conference League South outfit Havant & Waterlooville and Coca Cola League 1 side Millwall FC.
InnnerFrame have produced similar frames for the Bay’s FA ties in recent seasons – hopefully it won’t be too long before they produce more than one a season for the Bay!
05-11-06:FEET UP:
With Kidsgrove involved in a FAT replay, the scheduled league match in Staffordshire is added to the ‘to be rearranged’ list, although it is not too much of a worry as there are several spare Saturdays in the fixture calendar so there should be little danger of a fixture backlog. (Cue worst winter on record!!) The week off therefore gives a time to reflect on the position of the playing matters. Following yesterday’s point, the first away draw added to 5 wins and 4 defeats which is a better away return than for several seasons.18 matches played 30 points and 6th position. This time last season when the team by many was seen to be playing well the return was 28 points and 6th position. With Dav admitting the current team is not firing on all cylinders, we can all hope that when they do we can move nearer to the summit and should realise the season is very much in our own hands with plenty to play for.
The latest Fair Play table sees us slipping to 2nd place behind Kidsgrove.
STOP PRESS: Kidsgrove away will now be on Wednesday November 15th, the game at Clitheroe scheduled for Tuesday that week is now to be rearranged.
01-11-06:DIARY DATES:
In addition 3 dates for people’s diaries; we will be getting a ground inspection from the FA on November 28th as part of the ground grading process. Two events to be held in the clubhouse; the Chairman has organised another of his Sportsman’s evenings for January 19th; this one is a bit different though as it features the North Wales Coroner John Hughes with a comedian and 3 course meal. Initial indications are though that it is already a sell out with all tables booked, if however you would like to be placed on a reserve list for a table or future events please speak to a club director. However those wishing to ensure they don’t miss out on another event need to get their tickets for a Liverpool Laughter Night on Wednesday February 7th, featuring our own John Martin as well as other comedians - a great night out is guaranteed for only £5 with proceeds going towards the raise the roof appeal. The last event organised for the appeal was a sell out and a major success so spread the word and help the club.
Various sections of the website are being revamped, the latest to get the Mark Williams treatment is the Juniors link. Hopefully the new look meets our visitor’s approval. |
