Colwyn Bay FC Player Profiles

30-09-06:TALE OF TWO HALVES:
A poor first half display saw the Bay 3 down at the break, a quick reaction to a header saved by Ryan Brookfield saw the home team ahead, whilst a quick free kick deflected off the wall that the keeper was lining up made life difficult.  On the stroke of half time a free kick initially signalled in favour of the Bay for a foul on Tim Brandreth was placed to be taken by Chris Adamson, a home player stepped in, took it and amid confusion with the Bay players moving up field the home forward ran in to score against a bemused Brookfield.  The second half saw a revitalised Bay with Martin Crowder and then Kyle Armstrong heading the Bay back into the game, but the home team managed to slow the game down, frustrating the Bay’s attempts to maintain any momentum.

28-09-06:4 GOAL HAUL FOR COLWYN LADIES
We arrived at Llangefni with great expectations, and with a perfect playing area and excellent weather conditions we were not disappointed!  Having won our first two opening games of the season, we were out looking for our third, and after playing some excellent football we came away with all the points. the game was played at a very high tempo and this suited Colwyn Bays style, with sue Harrison netting the first goal with a neat volley mid-way through the first half (1-0).  This was soon followed by Vicky Byrne who started the game on the left wing, who hit a high shot into the top left hand corner of the net. (half-time 2-0)

The second half started very much like the first, but with a goal coming very quickly by Emma fisher, who lofted the ball over the Llangefni keeper to make it 3-0.  By this time Colwyn Bay were well in command, with everybody in the squad playing their part, and this helped increase the score line when sue Harrison was tripped in the area giving Emma her second goal from the penalty spot (4-0).  Overall this was our best display of the season, and with new players still to come in, and regular players recovering from injury, things are beginning to look a lot brighter.

25-09-06: EVERY LITTLE HELPS:
Once again Tesco have launched a 'Voucher collect' for Schools and Clubs, and the race is on to collect vouchers for sports equipment, kit and professional training sessions.

Anyone who wishes to collect these vouchers on behalf of the Colwyn Bay Junior teams, or encourage friends and family to do likewise can bring them to the ground and hand them to the members of the Junior teams who sell the programmes and act as ball boys on matchdays here at Llanelian Road.

The scheme proved to be very popular last year, and the Juniors were able to purchase a number of new training balls as a result of the help they got from the wider Bay family.

24-09-06:UPBEAT BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD:
With a sense of progress developing on the field with the players and management, it is encouraging that the supporters group is ensuring a similar sense of progress off the field as the Raise the Roof campaign smashed through the £2000 barrier this weekend.  The generosity of the recent donors (see RTR page) is very much appreciated as they have done so much previously, added to the contributions of the other donors it does again reemphasise the fact that this a collective effort and maybe the dream of that ground to be proud of edges that bit closer.  The board wishes to thank the leadership of Arthur Holden in driving this project forward as it gives a boost to the morale of the club officials doing their bit to move the club forward. It is incumbent upon people now to push the tickets for the John Martin Night; this has been deliberately pitched at an affordable price and for a family audience to demonstrate the club’s desire to embrace a broader group for this event.

23-09-06: BAY WIN AGAIN:
The Bay secured all 3 points, exacting revenge for the only league defeat of the season against Harrogate RA this afternoon.  The Bay were so dominant it was a surprise the winning margin was not greater, as Martin Crowder and Chris Priest opened their accounts for the club, whilst Darren Wright notched his fifth of the season.  2 goals for the visitors certainly ensured a nervous finale but the Bay held on and keep in touch with the leaders in the division.

Many people were upset with the antics of a couple of individuals

attached to the visiting team, I hope the decent people from Harrogate sort it out as it isn’t the conduct expected at any level of football.

Meanwhile included in the squad today was Kyle Jones who has been recruited after previously being with Bangor.

22-09-06: GOOD START FOR COLWYN BAY LADIES V CORWEN
This was the first home match of the season, and what a tough one to start with.  Corwen started the game full of fire, and with Colwyn Bay ladies missing four first team players at the start of the game, it wasn’t going to be easy.
In the first half the game was a very tight affair, with both sides pressing forwards, but with the bay having the better chances. with the defence holding firm, Nathania in goal had very little to do, and with young Becky Morgan playing up front from the start of the game  partnering Emma fisher the bay looked more likely to score.  As it was the half time score was 0-0.

The second half started fast and furious with Emma scoring on 55 min's only to have the goal disallowed for offside.
This seemed to spur the bay on, and the football they were playing was vastly improved to that of the first half.

By now Corwen were pushed well back, and it was only a matter of time before the bay took advantage. This came in the form of a free kick from just outside the area by Sali Evans the captain. (1-0).  Time and again the Bay pushed forward and the Bay were well on top. a third goal came from Vicky Byrne only for it to be disallowed once more for offside. the final score 1-0 for the Bay.  Overall the ladies could have played better, but to start the new season with 2 wins from 2, I am very pleased.

16-09-06:1-0 TO THE BAY BOYS:
A first half Darren Wright strike secured all 3 points for the Bay as they won their third away game of the season, once again by the only goal.  The result moves the Bay up to the fringes of the play off zone.

LAURA BACKS THE BAY:
Miss Wales Laura Livesey took time out from her hectic schedule this week to drop by Llanelian Road and model the new kit and catch up on the latest about her favourite team.  The Old Colwyn girl now spends a lot of her time in London, but likes to follow the Bay’s results whilst away and will be hoping she gets good news when away in the Philippines in November representing Wales in the Miss Earth contest.

14-09-06: BLOG SUGGESTIONS:
For those with a bit of time on their hands, 2 blogs that may be of interest to Bay fans can be found by clicking on the link name, one produced by our own Rhys and one by our friend from Mossley Smiffy , these feature musings on football as well as life in general providing an alternative slant on things that may resonate with the reader or alternatively seem a complete indulgence by an egomaniac.

13-09-06: LADIES MANAGER’S REPORT:
Well after weeks of training its finally arrived, The second season of football for Colwyn Bay Ladies. After a successful season last year 2005-06, With the ladies winning the North Wales Women’s League, The Betty Pickering Cup, and having top goal Scorer of the League Emma Fisher and Player of the League Rhiannon Mahoney, it will be a hard act to follow.  But I’m sure the Ladies will give it a good go!

Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of activity concerning the playing staff and also a change of  my assistant, who is now Neil Todd.  Neil is a very good servant to the girls and Ladies Football, not only is he my right hand man for the ladies, he also helps considerably with the four Colwyn Bay girls teams, which are affiliated to the club. The girls season has already started, and once again they are all looking forward to a successful season, after the teams won various trophies last season.

The playing staff this season has changed for the ladies, with Ruth Davenport, Jenny Davies, Gayle Naylor and Anne Jones all leaving and joining my former club Llandudno Junction.  On the positive side we have signed Three new players, These being Hayley Trimm from Kinmel Bay, Jo Moriarty from Wrexham and Aimee Todd (Neil’s daughter) from Liverpool Ladies, with further new signings coming at the end of September.
Our preseason has been very memorable with three very different games!  The first was a very hard match against Liverpool Ladies, who were very well organized, fit and already on there fifth warm up game.

The game ended 2-0 to Liverpool who only managed to break us down in the last fifteen minutes.  The second game was against Meifod Ladies from Mid Wales which ended 3-3, but Colwyn Bay were cruising 3-1 only to end up drawing the game  through some dubious decisions by the referee.  Then finally our last warm up game was against the male staff of Langley's leisure and fitness club in Conwy.  This was nothing but world war  three ,with both sides wanting  to win, only this time the ladies  came out victors  with a 2-1 margin over the men, and setting themselves up for the season.

Well that’s all for now except to say our new sponsors for 2006-07 are Progress School of Motoring  from Abergele, and on behalf of Colwyn Bay Ladies I would like to say thank you  to Mike ,Rob, and Gareth and the driving school for their support .

13-09-06: BAY HELD:
Despite leading 2-0 then 3-2, the Bay had to settle for a 3 all draw, when after being given an early lead with 2 own goals and then moving ahead with a penalty goal converted by Steve Hussey, defensive errors contributed to all 3 visitors goals.  Dav had to partly temper his frustrations as overall it was the most open game since he took charge with far more positives on show and he recognises there is still work he has to do to ensure his young side do not concede things cheaply.

11-09-06: DON WILLIAMS RIP:
It is with sadness we report that Don Williams has passed away.  Don was one of the committee that stepped in to keep the club going in the late 60’s and has been a regular attendee at matches giving support to the players and backing to the current board as it grappled with similar problems.  On a personal note he was one of the faces that always looked out for me when I was youngster at Bay games at Eirias Park and more recently on match days he would seek me out to back our attempts to turn the club round again. His cheery manner and encouragement will be missed.

10-09-06: WREXHAM NEWI 3 - COLWYN BAY LADIES 5
To start the season away at Newi was indeed a very hard start to this seasons campaign, but we eventually came away with a 5-3 win, which was a perfect start.  The game could have been all over after 20 min's, with Hayley Trimm (10 min's) scoring on her debut, Stacey Tradewell (18 min's) with  a 25 yard effort and Emma Fisher (20 min's) giving Colwyn Bay a comfortable lead, but then the wheels fell off with the Bay letting Newi back into the game.
Their first came in the 22 minute by the way of some sloppy defending.  This was repeated in the 32nd minute, which gave the Bay a 3-2 lead going into the break.

The second half started with both teams giving it their all, with Emma Fisher hitting a post.  But it was Newi who scored first making it 3-3.  This seemed to wake up the Bay and Emma got her second of the game with a great effort  from just outside the box on 75 min's to make it 4-3.

The Bay were now pushing for more goals with Kerry Graham, Stacey Tradewell and Aimee Todd (making her debut) all coming close. Jo Moriarty also making her debut was very impressive on the right of midfield, before being replaced through injury.  Then in the final minute Kerry Graham made the final score 5-3 with a classic header from a Stacey Tradewell corner.

This was a very hard game against a very good Wrexham side, but what a way to start the season .

10-09-06: 3 MORE POINTS AWAY:
Dav was forced into changes prior to kick off through injuries to John Boardman and Neil Black, but was even more radical when making 5 changes to the 14 on duty midweek.  There were starting berths for the new trio signed from Burscough as well as a place on the bench for Mike Burke and a return for Robbie Williams.   This was all vindicated as a tremendous team performance was capped half way through the 2nd half when a cross from Liam Page, starting his first game, was fumbled by the home keeper under pressure from Darren Wright and the ball ended up in the back of the net.  All debutants put down impressive markers to justify their inclusion as the squad strength starts to move up a notch.

SPORTSMAN’S EVENING A MAJOR SUCCESS:
The recent sell out evening organised by the Chairman was a big success as supporters, sponsors and club officials were entertained by the poetic skills of Scoot, followed by some hilarious tales from Joey Jones and Mickey Thomas.  The 3 course meal received rave reviews all round with the attendees already putting in reserved claims for the next event to be organised by the Chairman.  The evening generated good revenue for the club whilst once again showcasing the impressive Roger W Jones lounge and its ability to host such events.

09-09-06:TRIO BROUGHT IN:
Dav has raided UniBond Premier side Burscough to recruit Kyle Armstrong, Martin Crowder and Steve Hussey. All 3 are likely to be involved this afternoon against Stocksbridge.

06-09-06:BAY OUT AT FIRST HURDLE:
In a far from pleasant contest, the Bay despite leading at half time through Kenny Burgess and Rob Whyte, bowed out of the FA Cup in a controversial 4-2 defeat at Ossett Albion. As a consequence the side will now visit Bamber Bridge on Saturday 16th September in a rearranged league match.

03-09-06:REPLAY WEDNESDAY:
Despite dominating the first half, the Bay only had a Darren Wright header on the stroke of half time to show for their efforts.  As the side could not sustain their superiority in the second period a penalty on the hour mean the Bay have to travel to Yorkshire on Wednesday evening, the league game at Warrington will now need to be rearranged.

On the plus side the Bay have been awarded the League’s Fair Play Award for August with only a single yellow card in the month.

01-09-06:NEW WEBSITE HOST:
At very short notice we have had to relocate our site, this caused a bit of concern, but thanks to the sterling efforts over the last 48 hours of Mark Williams and our new hosts at Colwyn Bay based livetech.co.uk the move has been made.  We have managed to retain most of the site intact, though there has had to be some change to the message board.  There may well be some teething problems in the next few days but we hope to maintain a half decent service.  The professionalism of the team at Livetech has been of the highest order and the support they have given to us has been first class.
