Colwyn Bay FC Player Profiles

28-08-06:QUADRIO ON MARK:
A first goal by James Quadrio, rescued a point for the Bay in a game when the side was in some respects lucky to not be further behind, then could have snatched a win late on when a Chris O’Brien effort came back off the underside of the bar with the Rossendale keeper beaten. The result meant a 7 point return from the opening 4 games, a spell of games that has not seen the team play that well at all by the admission of most observers, especially the manager.
25-08-06:BAY LOSE 5-1:
The absence of Tim Brandreth and John Boardman was clearly felt when the Bay fell 2 goals behind in the first 8 minutes at Harrogate, a Kenny Burgess strike during a purple patch for the side at the start of the second half raised hopes, these were soon extinguished by further defensive lapses as the home side emphasised their superiority.
23-08-06:BAY VIEW CENTRE SPONSOR KIDS FOR FREE:
The club is pleased to announce that the Bay View Shopping Centre is to sponsor the club’s “Kids for free” initiative which allows under 16 year olds accompanied by an adult free entry to UniBond League matches held at Llanelian Road. Jinpa Thubten, Centre Manager at Bay View commented: “We are very proud to be sponsors of Colwyn
Bay Football Club, and think the Kid’s Go Free programme is a fantastic idea”. Bay View hope that this sponsorship will encourage children to try more sports activities and get active. On behalf of the club Andy Owens commented “It is reassuring that local businesses share our desire to encourage youngsters to become involved with their local club and hopefully take pride in their own community.”
22-08-06: ANOTHER CLEAN SHEET:
Confounding the words of wisdom for the preseason doom mongers Dav’s young side chalked up the second consecutive 1-0 victory against an Alsager side buoyant after their 4-0 win at the weekend. An impressive strike from the ‘old man’ of the team Kenny Burgess after impressive work by Sean Tierney, one of the five teenagers in the line up, secured the win just after the hour to secure the points and maintain the 100% start to the campaign.
20-08-06: CHAIRMAN’S NIGHT:
Thursday September 7th is the next occasion for the now famous Sportsman’s evening to be organised by the Chairman – this time it will be an evening in the company of Joey Jones and Mickey Thomas as well as Scoot. It is a 6.45pm start for 7 and includes a 3 course meal in the Roger W Jones Lounge. These Chairman’s evenings have been sell-outs in the past and given the reputation of them already the demand has been staggering, so with repeat bookings from previous attendees there is only one table for 10 still available. If anybody wants to reserve this last table (£250) please contact the Chairman direct on 01492 870418

19-08-08:3 POINTS IN BAG:
A Darren Wright header in the first half was enough to see off a spirited Wakefield side in the rain at Llanelian Rd, providing the Bay with the first opening day home win since a victory over Hyde United in the last century. Whilst the manager was concerned with certain aspects of the team performance he was relieved to have started with a clean sheet and 3 points, but the first half injury to Chris Adamson further emphasised his desire to strengthen the squad. With Tuesday’s opponents Alsager opening with a 4-0 away win the need to ensure the team operates at its full potential is paramount.
WAIT OVER:
The season kicks off today with the visit of Wakefield, who last season were in the Premier Division. The manager is hoping to get off to a good start but given that every team in the division has similar aspirations the opening games are traditionally competitive especially given the number of new faces often involved.
Yesterday afternoon the website was attacked by some cyber malcontent which meant visitors to the site were inconvenienced (as well as a couple of club officials!!), it seems to have been resolved now, but a useful reminder to people of the need to ensure anti virus protection is working.
16-08-06: COVERLEY OP A SUCCESS:
Following an operation last Thursday, the news regarding Neil Coverley’s arm is encouraging. Following an appointment today it seems the medical staff are very pleased with matters and it is scheduled to have the pins and cast removed on September 6th several weeks ahead of initial predictions.
Following training tonight 3 more players signed on; Lewis Callaghan a right sided defender from Crewe Alex, Sean Tierney a midfielder who has spent pre season with Southport and returning to the fold Chris O’Brien. There could be further additions ahead of Saturday’s opener.
12-08-06:BAY EDGE PAST PRESTATYN:
Chris Adamson made goals for Darren Wright in the first half and Kenny Burgess in the second, as the Bay managed to overcome a spirited Cymru Alliance side in blustery conditions. Former Bay player Dave Fuller played at right back in the first half for his team who have a nice set up and are looking forward to their season ahead in the division below the LoW. Dav admitted after the game the quality of performance will have to improve ahead of next Saturday, and has signed the experienced Chris Priest who has over 300 Football League games under his belt with Chester and Macclesfield. He expects some additional signings to be made in the next week.
NEW BADGE:
Following the massive success of the first badge design, a new limited edition badge is to be produced to help generate funds for the Raise the Roof appeal. This design involves a reference to Ednyfed Fychan who’s 13th Century palace was based in the Bay, Ednyfed was 2nd in command to Prince of Wales, Llywelyn Fawr, and was renowned for his warrior like characteristics. The 3 heads on the badge in fact recall the incident when in repelling an invasion of\ Wales led by the Earl of Chester in 1210; he decapitated 3 of the English Chiefs thus cementing his reputation amongst his people as well as those over the border.
In case any future match officials are reading this; I think it only right that we remind people this incident was some time ago and the club does not encourage similar reactions to any trio of individuals who upset local folk!!
09-08-06: MIXED BAG:
The manager was disappointed with a first half performance that saw the Bay concede 2 sloppy goals to LoW side Porthmadog but the major concern was the early injury to Neil Black who hurt his ankle in a challenge with the keeper. Colin Edwards will be working his magic hands to ensure the flying forward is fit sooner rather than later as the injury list mounts, the problems even extended too the liner last night who had to be replaced by Colin late in the 2nd half!! A more positive 2nd half saw Darren Wright net for the second time in 2 games as the team produced a more encouraging display. Last season’s top scorer Darren Wright committed himself to another season by signing before kick off, whilst the manager bolstered his midfield by signing James Foran from Blackpool, former player Robbie Williams who returns after 3 seasons away as well as Kenny Burgess who arrives after spells with Bangor and Rhyl.
Still on the injury front whilst Luke Campbell reported last night that he was ahead of schedule and expects to resume training this week, Neil Coverley will be undergoing surgery this next 24 hours on his wrist, it may well be a couple of months before Covs is fit again to be playing, all of us wish the popular player a speedy recovery. This emphasises the need for squad strengthening, Dav will be speaking to additional players over these next few days and is hoping to bring in more players in all areas of the side, some of whom may be playing in the final pre season game on Saturday at Prestatyn (map). The ground is off Bastion Rd in Prestatyn; on reaching Prestatyn continue until you reach the traffic lights at the main crossroads (the T.A. HQ Building, is situated here). Turn heading towards the sea front, take the second right into Bastion Gardens, and follow the road down until you reach the gates at the end of the road, turn left into the lane, this is the entry to the ground.
One consolation last night was the much needed rain; Elfed remains confident the underlying condition of the pitch is better than in previous years and once some rain starts falling the results will be impressive.
05-08-06:FIRST HALF DOUBLE ENOUGH:
Two first half strikes from Neil Black and Darren Wright were enough as Dav once again experimented in a 2-1 success over LoW side Aberystwyth who scored a late consolation.
Following the game goalscorer Neil Black signed, the pacy player arrives from Marine and will be remembered by Bay fans for his displays against us previously. In addition Dav agreed terms with the back line from last season with player of the year Paul Roberts and Tim Brandreth, joining the already signed Neil Coverley and John Boardman, although the injury to the former as well as Paul Morris means additional defensive reinforcements will be needed. To complete the back line 19 year old keeper Ryan Brookfield also committed, Ryan has
Also signing from last season’s squad are Stephen Roberts, Chris Hogg and Shaun Shannon. Dav is to continue talks with other players over the next few days and is anticipating some other new faces will appear on Tuesday against Porthmadog.
04-08-06:SQUAD TO TAKE SHAPE:
With the start of the season approaching, the manager intends over the next week to sign up those players whom he thinks have done enough to earn a place in his initial squad. With a fortnight’s worth of training and 3 friendly matches still to play, Dav is not going to be rushed into signing anybody and continues to monitor the availability of other players. |
