27-07-06: COVERLEY FRUSTRATION:
A disappointing night on the field was compounded with an injury to Neil Coverley towards the end of the first half against Bangor. In a game devoid of too much goalmouth action, the Bay centre back fell following an aerial challenge and broke his wrist. The injury will require an operation tonight to insert a plate or pin and following the injury to Paul Morris earlier in preseason further depletes the defensive strength in the squad. The match itself did not provide too much to excite the crowd for despite the Bay having the upper hand in terms of possession in the first half, apart from hitting the woodwork, Bangor’s keeper was not severely tested. The second half was more disjointed with the visitors looking the more likely in the latter stages, but apart from a speculative long range effort that produced the only goal it was an evening dominated by defences.
Dav is fully aware of the strengths and weaknesses in the playing staff on duty in these first three friendlies, which have seen a lack of goalscoring opportunities, but his pressing concern after the game was for Neil Coverley. With just over 3 weeks to go before the big kick off, he will be looking to introduce some more new faces to bolster his attacking options.
25-07-06: TWO NEW PARTNERS ON BOARD:
The club is pleased to announce the backing of 2 more local businesses as the league campaign draws closer.
A new look match programme for the new season will be produced by Powlsons of Colwyn Bay. General Manager John Jones stated; “Powlsons Limited is proud to be supporting Colwyn Bay Football Club. As one of North Wales’s longest established printers, Powlsons has a tradition of supporting local businesses and as the main sponsor for the 2006-2007 programmes we hope our link with “The Seagulls” will prove a great success for both club and ourselves. We hope the club and the fans enjoy the new style programme, which is printed using the latest digital printing technology. The HP Indigo Press was installed in Powlsons in 2005, offering same day colour printing and has proved a great success for many businesses in the area.”

In addition the Man of the Match awards will be sponsored by Stars Café Bar of Colwyn Bay. 24-07-06: LADIES TO HOST LIVERPOOL:
On Sunday August 13th Liverpool ladies are to travel to Llanelian Road to play our own Ladies in a friendly with a kick off time of 1:00 p.m. With free admission and bar and catering facilities open it promises to be an excellent family day out and a chance for people to see how good a standard of play is produced.
24-07-06:PROMOTION CONFUSION:
Following the adjustments to Step 4 of the pyramid for this forthcoming
season and the failed attempt by the UniBond to gain FA sanction to establish the 6th Step 4 division as in the original blueprint, the division 1 clubs have been dealt a further blow with the news only the champion side will go up automatically with a second club via play offs for those finishing 2nd -5th. This contradicts some of the earlier indications regarding promotion places, which stated there would still be 3 places available as in the last 2 seasons. Given the division is now up to 24 teams and the conventional wisdom is that it will be a stronger division than last season, to have the promotion places cut by 50% is a disappointment to say the least. In terms of parity the Ryman and Southern leagues at step 4 have 4 promotion places each, twice that of the UniBond.
The Bay are seen as a 14/1 chance for the title by skybet.com Belper,Woodley,Stocksbridge, Kidsgrove and Camell Laird are all at 8/1 with Bradford PA at 12/1. When more players are signed by Dav those odds must surely shorten!!
22-07-06: MOTORS PROVIDE STERN TEST:
In very warm conditions Conference North side Vauxhall Motors ensured the Bay were given a testing time. With the rain drought impacting on the colour of the pitch the goal drought was also extended, but both sides engineered some good chances as Dav gave a run out to some new faces. The manager was pleased with the overall performance and felt it confirmed some of the areas he felt needed attention. He is now going to speak to the players he wants in turn and after the match signed Neil Coverley and John Boardman who rebuffed advances from other clubshigher in the pyramid to commit to the Bay, a characteristic Dav is keen on as he identifies players who genuinely want to play for the club. Dav also intends to continue with his experimentation on Wednesday with some other new faces likely to be involved. Attending the game in conditions more akin to their Miami base were the family of vice President David Williams, son Gareth was mascot for the day. The picture shows David making a presentation to manager Peter Davenport.
20-07-06: GOALLESS ON THE WIRRAL:
A satisfactory opening pre season game against Heswall, provided the opportunity for Dav to try a few things out and give the players a good workout on the hottest July day on record. There were not manyclear cut chances and Heswall were a credit to the West Cheshire league. With several players unavailable Dav was able to give several triallists a run out, which will continue to be the pattern for the next few games.
For the home friendlies this season admission will be £4 for adults, £2 concessions, £1 U16 whilst accompanied youngsters gain free admission as do season ticket holders, these will be available to purchase at the ground at these matches.
19-07-06: JOHNSTONES PARTNERSHIP:
Whilst the players have recently returned to pre season training, the supporters of Colwyn Bayhave also been busy getting things ready at the ground ahead of the new season. In particular working parties have been painting parts of the ground with materials donated by Johnstones the paint suppliers who have outlets in both Old Colwyn and Llandudno. Football club director Phil Jackson said “The club is very appreciative of this generosity. The backing from Karl Williams and Simon Cocking at Johnstones has been first class and is an indication of how local businesses can support their local club. Karl has been most helpful in providing an excellent service by ensuring the club choose the right materials for the painting tasks we had”
Johnstones branch manager Karl Williams added; “We are pleased to support local community projects such as this and pride ourselves in excellent customer service and high quality products”

16-07-06: COUNTDOWN TO HESWALL:
With one final training session before Wednesday’s first pre season game at Heswall, Dav and his coaching team have been impressed with the work done by the players to date and is looking forward to getting some match play into the preparations. With the emphasis on at this stage on conditioning the first 3 matches will see that continuing with the need to build up match fitness a key target. In addition Dav wants to assess the players in match situations and intends to give everyone a chance to be involved. It is likely that Wednesday will see approximately 18 players involved including trialists as he begins to shape a squad he considers capable of competing once the league campaign kicks off.
